McCarthy – Kennicott Area - Apr. 5 acres

(This Eloquent Narrative Was Prepared By The Seller)

    McCarthy – Kennicott Area
    “Fireweed Mountain Dream Lodge”
Tract 25, Kennicott River Land Tracts # 63-10

This magical location is truly a once in a lifetime find!  For those of you who don’t know the Kennecott-McCarthy area, this recently rediscovered turn of the century copper mining town is rich in history and featured regularly in National Geographic Magazine and National Geographic Traveler for its majestic beauty.    Unlike some other former mining towns like Aspen and Breckenridge that have long been developed, McCarthy is on the brink of becoming an upscale destination within the 13.2 million acre “Mountain Kingdom” of the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. McCarthy has become, next to Denali Park, the most popular place to visit in Alaska.

This 5 acre parcel is nestled among Spruce and Aspen trees just on the outskirts of McCarthy town at mile 58.5 of the McCarthy Road.  Access to the property is via an approved section line driveway built in 2004, meaning there will never be a need to worry about access to the property.  The property is also located on the West side of McCarthy, where you do not need to cross the Kennecott River or foot bridge – you can drive right into the garage with all of your supplies and unload at your convenience.  Getting into McCarthy town is an easy, picturesque 1.5 mile walk, bike or ATV ride away.

The owner took great care in developing this 5 acre parcel, letting the natural surroundings guide the landscape and infrastructure design.  The meticulous owner invested in high quality materials and builders to develop the frame constructed lodge and three log cabins.  The property is set up for off the grid living whether that is an interest in solar or a small wind turbines you have all options available with this beauty.   Yours and guests’ needs and desires for comfort and convenience can be readily met by the amenities installed on this property, from the DEC approved five bedroom septic system to the 75 ft well on the property that unearths the purest, most delicious water.

Glacial rock paths provide easy access between the lodge and the cabins.  The log cabins are very well constructed and sit on building pads, so they can be relocated around the property, or elsewhere, if the new owner so desires.  These air tight cabins are 16’ x 20’ each with a sleeping loft, private deck and fire pit.  They are fully furnished with new mattress sets, new futons, and new table and chairs. One cabin is complete with an oil drip stove, using no electricity.  They are furnished to sleep 6 comfortably.  Each has a unique view of the mountains and is privately located on the property.

The main lodge is a large, 2,600 sq. ft. constructed-to-code building that sits on a concrete foundation, is frame constructed, Hardie board sided, and metal roofed.  It’s wired for electricity and fully plumbed.  The upper floor is designed as the living space in order to take full advantage of the mountain views.  The extra large windows maximize natural light during the day and offer breathtaking views of the aurora borealis skies on winter nights.

The upper floor has an open floor plan with a 20’ x 30’ living/dining room, kitchen w/counter top bar, spacious private bathroom, and bedroom.  Two lofts off the main living space were designed for lounging with the best landscape views and offer additional guest sleeping space.  The upper floor mud room opens up to 20’ x 30’ Trex deck that faces North toward Kennecott town, mountain peaks, glacier, and the old copper mines of yesteryear.  The lower level of the lodge is equipped with an additional room that could be used as an office or bedroom, a pantry, two car garage, 10’ x 20’ mechanical room, and two spacious, private, external entry bathrooms with showers for cabin guests.

This past summer-2011, the lodge was kindly graced with the installation of hickory kitchen cabinets, a tongue and groove spruce wood floor, carpet downstairs in the bedroom-office and the very best of vinyl in the mud and upper level bathroom.  All window sills, trim work were done in Alaskan birch complimenting the natural feel of the environment.  The fact that this property is built to code and meticulously constructed is quite unusual for this rural remote area of Alaska.

The lodge is nearly completed on this million dollar 360 degree mountain view property!  It’s literally a week out from a grand-opening with final countertop and sink installation in the kitchen-bar area, completion of the two bathrooms downstairs for cabin guests and the mechanical room set-up.  99.9% of the finish materials have been purchased to complete this beauty and would be included in the sale.

This property will allow you to bring in your entrepreneurial spirit to thrive within the confines of one of the most beautiful and historically interesting places on Earth.  The property was constructed to cater to high dollar clients, investing thoughtfulness into design and quality into construction.  A place with class and style awaits you.

The lodge is fully furnished with Dhow-wood furniture from the country of Tanzania in East Africa.  Tanzanian fishermen travel in dhows on the Indian Ocean to fish, providing nourishment for their family.  In the case of the furniture which now resides in McCarthy, the dhows as they completed their life of sailing the waters, were recycled and made into furniture for the owner.  The furniture is made from native woods such as mango, coconut, teak and many other African wood species.  The furniture is amazingly stout, adding character and yet another story about this magnificent one of a kind property.
