Lake Minchumina is one of the largest lakes in the Interior (approx. 27 sq. miles). This spectacular lake on the edge of McKinley National Park offers the most magnificent view of the “Big” one.  Imagine looking from a 650’ elevation lake up a 20,000’ mountain.  You will be impressed!

The fishing is superior:  Pike, White Fish, Grayling and Burbot (best known as “Poor Man’s Lobster”) for its great flavor and white meat.  Wildlife such as Wolves, Bears, Moose, Wolverines, Lynx and Fox all can be found throughout the area.  The "Garden-Belt" summer temperatures and nearly 24 hours of daylight can make temperatures reach into the 90's. The small community of Lake Minchumina offers a few year round residents. Some small rustic cabins, as well as a few more modern built up homes are scattered around this huge lake. In addition, there is a nice Airstrip (Minchumina LX), with commercial air/mail service from Fairbanks and a small Post Office. (One may have access to the road system if you are a hardy snowmobiler).
